RB Sleeper Spotlight – Jordan Mason

Did you know you were drafting the wrong running back in Minnesota?  Aaron Jones is the highest ranked Vikings running back in fantasy this year but Jordan Mason is the running back you want.  This is why you should be targeting him in all your drafts.

Over the past 4 seasons only 4 RBs with at least 350 total carries have averaged at least 5 yards per carry. Jahmyr Gibbs, James Cook, De’Von Achane, and Mason. The first 3 RBs on this list are going in the top 15 and are all top 7 running backs according to expert consensus rankings. Mason is the only 1 of the 4 going much later, currently ranked 118 as RB40.  So why is Mason ranked so low if he’s been this efficient? He hasn’t been a big producer but that is about to change.

Last year Jordan Mason had a modest 809 yards and 6 touchdowns. In half PPR leagues, that production ended up with a RB35 finish in 2025. Mason finished as RB37 the year before. At RB40, he’s currently being drafted at his floor. That means you can draft him with no risk and take advantage of the upside.

Because the offense is going to be better this season with key changes that benefit Mason. For starters, the team made a change with Keith Carter taking over as the offensive line coach, a coach that has built a reputation for building physical run blocking schemes. Kyler Murray is a far better QB than what we saw from JJ McCarthy last year. Not only should the pass attack be far better but the threat of Kyler’s own rushing skill set means teams will not be able to collapse on the run game.

Mason’s competition is another reason to bet on him. Aaron Jones is the starter but coming off an injury-plagued season where he missed 5 games. At 32 years of age, Jones best days are behind him. The only other RBs of note are Demond Claiborne, a 6th round undersized rookie and Zavier Scott, who’s primarily a special teamer & a depth piece.

Insiders have reported from OTAs that this will be Mason’s backfield. With the offense is expected to be better and an improved emphasis on the run game, Mason should end up with his first 1000 yard season and see a top 25 fantasy finish.
