2026 Dark Horses - Week 8

Quarterbacks

Tanner McKee at Commanders

The Commanders defense has been the second worst defense against opposing quarterbacks this season and things got worse from the team learning their best defensive tackle was injured mid-week and lost for the season. Commanders are far better against the run which will force more pass game from Philadelphia McKee hasn’t been great and will be without Devonta Smith but the matchup favors a good game from him.

Kyler Murray at Detroit
The Vikings are undefeated but are winning in spite of their offensive woes, ranking 29th in total offense and passing yards per game.  Murray has been unstartable, averaging 198 passing yards per game over the past 4 starts & just 3 total touchdowns.  But the Vikings are facing the league’s most favorable defense for opposing quarterbacks. If ever a week to show he can still be a fantasy asset, it is in Detroit this week.

Running Backs

Bam Knight at Cowboys

Jeremiyah Love is back for the Cardinals and is expected to assume the lead role out of the backfield. However, Love has already been splitting time this season and considering this is Love’s first game back after missing 2 games it is likely the team will continue to pace his touches. For now, Tyler Allgeier is ahead of Knight on the depth chart but Knight was far more effective as a runner with Love out the past 2 weeks. Considering the matchup is favorable for runners, Knight could end up with more meaningful carries that will translate into production for fantasy.

Sean Tucker vs Falcons

Atlanta hasn’t been easy to run on from a yardage perspective but have struggled in the redzone especially as of late. Running backs have been especially successful, with RBs scoring 7 rush touchdowns in the past 4 games. While Bucky Irving is the main runner, Tucker has been getting some meaningful rushing work and last week had 52 yards & a touchdown. Considering the matchup favors runners, he’s on the radar if you are thin at the position.

Roschon Johnson at Seahawks

Seattle’s defense has been strong this season against opposing runners, only allowing 1 runner to total more than 51 yards rushing and that was Christian McCaffrey with 68. However, they are surprisingly inefficient when opposing team’s get into the red zone, yielding 4 rush TDs in 3 games until they stiffened last week against Kenneth Walker & the Chiefs. The Bears have an explosive offense led by D’Andre Swift out of the backfield. With Kyle Monangai missing another game, Roschon is on the radar as a TD dependent play but the numbers suggest there’s a chance for a goal line plunge for Roschon.

Wide Receivers / Tight Ends

TJ Hockenson at Lions

No team has been more favorable to the position than Detroit, yielding over 100 yards and nearly 2 touchdowns per game to opposing tight ends. Hockenson is on the field for 80% of the team’s snaps & one of Murray’s favorite targets. Hockenson could be in store for a great week.

Makai Lemon at Eagles

Philadelphia is missing several playmakers giving the 1st round rookie a chance to be a factor. Last week against the Cowboys, Lemon had a breakout game with 7 catches for 67 yards and a touchdown. The matchup is even more favorable facing the 2nd worst defense for opposing wide receivers.

Eli Raridon at Dolphins

Miami has struggled against tight ends this year. They have given up a tight end touchdown in every game since week 1 except once but they gave up 119 yards in the one exception.  Hunter Henry is the main tight end in this offense but the rookie Raridon has played in over 50% of the snaps. While he has been mostly an inline blocker as part of 12 personnel packages, he does get a handful of targets & at 6’6” 245 is a solid mismatch target for the red zone. With Romeo Doubs still out and AJ Brown hobbled, Raridon could be used more than people expect.

Ja’Kobi Lane at Bills

No team has been more wide receiver friendly than the Buffalo Bills. Lane missed a lot of time this season with an injury but in 2 games played since returning to action has been second on the team in WR snap share behind Zay Flowers. He has also logged 5 targets in both games. Lamar Jackson is finally back and considering he’s still not 100% recovered from his ankle injury, it is probable he will pass more in a pass friendly matchup. Lane is poised for his best game of the year.

Evan Engram vs Chiefs

Bo Nix and the Broncos pass game has failed to meet expectations.  Against a Chiefs team that was embarrassed in Seattle last week, I would not expect a breakout pass performance. However, the Chiefs have been surprisingly vulnerable to opposing tight ends and Engram did have 4 catches for 43 yards and a touchdown when he faced them in week 1.

Kendrick Bourne at Cowboys

Since Marvin Harrison was traded from the Cardinals, Bourne has seen a boost in usage, with 22 targets over the past 3 games. This week he faces a Dallas defense that has struggled to slow receivers, giving up over 180 yards a game to the position, which ranks 2nd worst in the league.  Bourne should again see a solid target share but considering the matchup should see better production.
